Van Court: A Mani/Pedi with A Conscience

Pregnancy putting a damper your nail maintenance? Have no fear and head to Van Court on Water St. downtown, where all polishes are natural, 5 or 9 free (made without harmful ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene, xylene and camphor), vegan, cruelty-free and/or gluten-free. Maintaining a sanitary environment is paramount here; tools are sterilized in a medical-grade autoclave, a wall-unit air purifier ensures easy breathing, manicures are performed without water and cuticles are nipped not cut to prevent infection. Similarly, pedicure wells do not feature water jets, which can harbor bacteria; instead, water basins are purified after each use. More reasons to love this place: the salon exclusively uses luxury lacquers from women-owned companies (Deborah Lippmann, LVX, Jin Soon), provides staff development opportunity for technicians, and even offers kids services (Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake manicure, This Little Piggy pedicure) using child-friendlier peel-off polish if so desired.
