You won’t find annoying blinking lights, plastic parts and noisy gadgets at the West Village’s newest toy and bookstore. The newly opened Teich Toys & Books is a family owned boutique kid’s shop with a wide selection of classic and hand-crafted toys and books to inspire and engage little minds. As if the vintage circus-themed store design isn’t cute enough, your kiddos will go nuts over live puppet shows and regular story times, too. So what can we play with?

Owners Allison and JJ McGowan started selling baby and kid products in their existing West Village boutique Teich (22 8th Ave.) following the birth of their son. Three years later they saw an opportunity for an entirely new store dedicated to unique baby and kid products and books.

A perfect spot for that last minute birthday or shower gift – there’s something for everyone here. Products focus on eco-friendly, handmade and classic items from magic sets and jacks to wooden heirloom toys, stuffed animals and airplane kits. They even carry old-school games such as Slinky, Scrabble, Chinese Checkers and Candy Land. Notable brands in stock include Uncle Goose, Manny & Simon, Pure Play Kids, Beka and Grass & Clover.

It’s fun for the whole family

Located down the street from Bleecker Playground, Teich Toys & Books aims to bring families in the community together for special events like regular puppet shows and story times, as well as seasonal and holiday events. Their grand opening weekend featured a juggler, a bubble party, temporary tattoos and other circus-inspired entertainment.
