Portland’s crafty heart beats strong this time of year as the holidays get closer and the creative ideas start flowing. Take advantage of all that creativity floating around and craft some handmade gifts with your little ones. The following spots offer instruction and materials to make gifts like baby footprint-paintings and hand dyed silk scarves, as well as making the boxes for the gifts themselves. Click through our album to see our favorite six spots to DIY like a pro.

The Craft Factory

Wouldn't Grandma like a picture in a frame that your little elves decorated all by themselves? For $12, you can choose one craft base (bird houses, crowns, alphabet letters, ornaments, picture frames, trinket boxes, etc.) and decorate away with all the provided materials. Attend any time during their drop-in hours, or take advantage of the two-for-one craft special for grandparents and grandchildren crafting together for Grandparents Day on December 27th. First-time crafters get a $2 discount. Check out their drop-in hours Thurs., Fri. and Sat. on their website for details.
