Fancy That: A New Store for the Party Planning Challenged
When we look back on our life’s most stressful moments (planning our wedding, moving into a new house with two little kids, and the kindergarten search) somehow planning our kiddo’s birthday party always makes the cut. Even though we plan and plan and create dozens of Pinterest boards with the most amazing ideas, when it comes down to actually throwing the party, we’re often left scrambling. And when we say scrambling we mean frantically driving from shop to shop looking for the party favors, invites, activities, sweets, and everything in-between while our husbands shake their heads at the chaos we’ve made for ourselves. Well, we’ve got some good news for Portland parents who aspire to be the hip hostess. Say hello to Fancy That, your one-stop shop for everything party related.
Fancy That, which opened in late 2012, is the brainchild of Lisa Komer, a Portland mama who decided that after years of helping her friends with birthday party invites, wedding invitations and holiday cards she would open her own local shop. Fancy That is all about helping you create the most awesome and effortless party whether it’s a Valentine’s Day party you’re hosting at school or your kid’s third birthday party.
What You’ll Find There
This shop is seriously about making you look like the hip hostess you aspire to be. The store is broken up into color for the party and packaging supplies, which makes it easy if you know your child cannot live without pink or your kiddo must-have a Thomas the Tank blue themed bash. They also carry various collections from the Cowboy Collection to the Woodland Fairy Collection so you can not only get inspired but also have all the goods right at your fingertips to boot.
Whether you’re looking for awesome cake stands (large bowl style down to the single cupcake stand), cool ribbon and twine, party treat bags, or unique invites, Fancy That has got you covered for your next bash. And, since this is Portland, Fancy That has made sure to feature local artisans. They carry vintage tags made by local designer Inkberry (see their Etsy shop here) and the shop also makes one of a kind journals in house with vintage newspapers. The vintage-themed goods doesn’t stop there. Fancy that boasts vintage inspired flag banners, boxes, tags, and mini bottles of fairy dust.
Not totally sure that Fancy That carries the perfect goods for your party? Or, do you have an idea in your head (ok, your Pinterest board) about how you want your theme to look? Fancy That boasts custom designed party supplies in any color and pattern. Their event design services will help you customize your party so its exactly the way you always envisioned. And you thought you could never throw a party like Martha Stewart.
In addition to their slew of party goods and ideas, Fancy That also boasts lots of fun goodies for kids. A recent trip into the store by Red Tricycle mama Tracy Rains uncovered goods from Radz, a local Portland company. For your girlfriends on your list, Fancy That features cheese plates, wine charms, and yummy scented candles.
