We Pick These 6 Fall U-Pick Farms!

Hit one (or two!) of our favorite U-pick farms for a day to remember and some produce to enjoy later.Each farm has their own rules (i.e. no pets allowed, BYO buckets, or cash only please!) so make sure you check their website before heading out! Most farms have a stand at your local farmer’s markets so keep your eyes peeled for fresh finds from your favorite farm. Read on to find out how to enjoy the first days of fall all winter long!

Bella Organic

If picking organic is a priority for you and your pickers, Bella Organic right right up your row. A 100-acre certified organic farm, this spot on Sauvie Island is run on 100% solar energy. Visit May 12 through early November for over 70 varieties of berries, fruit, vegetables, and herbs. Stop by the store for already-picked produce and other specialty items like jam, pickles, and syrups. Bella supplies buckets and wagons for hauling your berries back from the fields. Partnering with Buddha Kat Winery, they also have a tasting wine, cider, and brew at the farm. This spot is also known for its pumpkin patch and corn maze in the fall!

Hood River U-Pick Organic

Another organic spot to pick is this family farm. With double mountain views and a dedication to organic produce you’ll want to pick this place for your day on the farm. When you arrive drive 600 feet to their entrance where you’ll see the white house and goats! Also hear the venue is Hood River Waterfront Park, which was voted the Best Beach in Hood River in 2011 for its climbing wall for big kids and playground toys for the little ones.

Sherwood Orchards

Home to 26 U-pick acres, nearly 2,000 fruit trees and more than 150 years of farming under their belts this spot makes for a memorable day trip! In the fall you’ll have your choice of quince, persimmons, more than 80 varieties of apples and a selection of Bartlett, Seckel and Bosc pears. Just remember to bring your own boxes, check online for weekly crop updates and grab cash before leaving home, as they are a cash-only farm.

Draper Girls Country Farm

Distance from downtown Portland: 75 miles

If your picking team includes littler ones, this is the farm for them. Little helpers will have no problem picking fruit from the dwarf apple trees, a magnet each autumn for lovers of local apples and pears. You can picnic in the garden, visit the  farm animals and pick your own fruit with Mt. Hood in the background. They also have a fruit stand with locally made jams and honeys—and it is the site of the only 100-percent pure, non-pasteurized and licensed cider mill in the Hood River Valley.

Mt. View Orchards
Aptly named Mt. View Orchards this farm’s views are as good as their produce. Here you’ll find 80 varieties of U-pick pears and apples that include Galas, Fujis, Honeycrisps and (our personal favorite) Jonagolds. Kids will love it for the tractor wagon ride through the orchard and the opportunity to meet Carlos the Steer and his fellow farm animals! You and your fellow 21+ pickers will probably want to opt for their Golden Row Cider and a bouquet of Dahlias after a long (but fun) day of work.

Fall Months: A large variety of apples

Kiyokawa Family Orchards
This farm in Parkdale is worth the drive. It was already the largest U-pick orchard in the Hood River Valley, but recently added on 20 acres to offer more varieties and U-pick selection. This farm is planted with more than 80 varieties of apples and pears, providing guests with an ever-changing selection of what’s available to pick. The staff is kind and accommodating, there’s a play area for children and the fruit stand is stocked with pies, turnovers, jams and ciders. As of this post there are still cherries available, most farms have claimed them as out of season!
