This is the first event of Northwest Children's Nature Play Week. Join Nature's Marketing Director, David Bond and nature play design experts for a tour of some of Portland's innovative nature-based play parks. See what is currently being done to offer outdoor spaces that foster creative play and nature engagement. This is a time to share lessons learned and successes. We will try to form carpools after the Hyland Park Tour to limit the amount of vehicles on the road. Who should attend? This tour of nature play spaces will be appropriate for professionals, educators, parents, designers, and recreation providers that are interested in how to implement natural areas for play and learning. It will offer specific information to anyone that is on board with the concept of getting kids outside to play and all the associated benefits. But, who may have tried to get kids outside and have found; a small backyard, a park with only lawn and playground equipment or a restoration area with no off trail use. We hope to offer ideas and inspire people who are moved to action and looking for successful examples that they can emulate. Goals * To inspire people to engage their school, community, or park to implement more kids nature spaces. * To have a presentation at each site about project goals, team organization, funding and implementation, so attendees can start to see some of the complexities and successes of the process. * To have David Bond facilitate an open discussion on if these projects are going in the right direction. What has been done throughout his network? What kind of spaces are we ending up with? Is this facilitating the activities, learning and connections we want? How can we do better, get things implemented faster, with more kids affected. Schedule of Tour Stops Stop 1: Hyland Park Tour (9:00 AM - 10:00 AM) Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation - Access off Sexton Mountain Rd, E of Murray, walk in from there Stop 2: Portland Children’s Museum Tour (10:15 AM – 11:00 AM) Portland Children’s Museum- 4015 SW Canyon Rd, Portland, OR 97221, meet at front plaza Stop 3: Westmoreland Park Tour (11:15 AM – 12:00 PM) Portland Parks and Recreation - SE McLoughlin Blvd & Bybee Blvd, near the center of the park Stop 4: Harper’s Playground (12:20 PM – 1:00 PM) Portland Parks and Recreation/ Harper’s Playground - 2525 N Dekum Street, Portland, OR, 97217
