Summer fairs and festivals continue: This week Fremont Street celebrates and the Washington Park Summer Festival kicks off 10 days of amazing shows. The first-ever Rox in Sox Children’s Music and Book Festival celebrates music and books. Obonfest is back—and so is Bones and Brew. Trekkies will transport in droves to the annual Trek in the Park festival. And the Firehouse Restaurant is throwing a birthday party you won’t want to miss.

Westside

Washington Park Summer Festival (featured)
Enjoy 10 days of amazing free performances in the Washington Park Amphitheater under the summer sky. BodyVox will be kicking off the series, and other acts include The Shanghai Woolies, Wanderlust Circus, Black Prairie, and the Portland Festival Symphony. August 3-12. 6:00 pm. Free. All ages. Eastside

Obonfest 2013 
Join hundreds of festivalgoers for Bon Odori dancing set to music by the acclaimed HAPPYFUNSMILE. Enjoy taiko performances, kids games and activities, and Asian crafts. Traditional Japanese foods prepared by Oregon Buddhist Temple members including yakisoba, yakitori, shave ice and manju will be for sale. Sat, 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Free. All ages. Event details.

Trek in the Park
These insanely popular performances are a must-see for Trek fans. Not a Trek fan? These fun shows just might make you one. The kids will love it either way. Weekends through August 26. Cathedral Park. 5:00 pm. Free (donations welcome). Young theater lovers of all agesEvent details.

Fremont Festival
The 26th annual festival will kick off with a bike and pet parade and include a kids zone featuring bounce houses, face painting, art and craft tables, cake walks and pie-eating contests. Sat. 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Free. All ages. Event details.

Firehouse Centennial and Summer Social
The Firehouse team is closing down the streets to throw a celebratory family-friendly bash toasting five incredible years and the 100th birthday of their North Portland home, all while benefiting two local organizations. Sun. 2:00 pm. Food and drink donations. All ages. Event details.

19th Annual Bones and Brew
Thousands of Portlanders will celebrate BBQ and beer—and to raise money for a local organization—at this family-friendly street festival Sat, 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Sun 12:00 pm – 5:00pm. $5. All ages. Event details.

Suburbs

Rox in Sox Children’s Book and Music Festival
Award-winning family music artists, authors, and the Portland Opera will join in this inaugural festival. Performers include authors, kindie rock stars and the Portland Opera. Families are asked to bring socks, shoes and books to distribute to kids in need in Portland, Kenya and Jamaica. Sat. 10:00 am – 7:00 pm. Free. All ages. Event details.
