Your kids idolize the Portland Timbers like you used to idolize Jake Ryan (swoon). Fuel their love of soccer (errr…football) at Rose City Futsal, Portland’s newest spot for indoor fun. The indoor haven for soccer lovers is up and running (literally) just waiting for your little kickers, aged three to fourteen years, to partake in classes, team play, and kid-friendly leagues. There’s even room for you Mom and Dad to break a sweat, no matter the weather outside. Read on to discover all that Rose City Futsal has to offer, on the field and off.
If You Build It, They Will Come
The brainchild of eight NE Portland families, Rose City Futsal aims to bring 3×3 and 5×5 indoor soccer play on three fields to one and all. Two turf courts and one hard court mean even the lightest taps makes balls rip. With a smaller area to cover and more time away from the bench, your kids will develop their passing, trapping and scoring skills.
Yes, there are other Futsal and indoor soccer palaces around Metro PDX, but this one aims to help alleviate competition for field time (again three fields y’all!), encourage learning and joy in the game, while also keeping activity going in our dreariest of months. They even plan on heating the joint – so mamas and papas chillin’ (pun intended) on the upper decks can stay toasty warm while logging some wifi time.
RCF’s so new not everything is ironed out yet, which means lots of opportunity abounds at this new hot spot for fun. Sign your littles up for a class, a team or get their rec crew together to keep their momentum going all winter long. Get in on the ground floor however your soccer stars wanna play. October brings Sunday Youth League games and promises 48 minutes of fun. And on Friday nights, family open playtime beckons.
Get the Ball Rolling
Making playtime rad for the grownups who watch — be it morning or happy hours, is a cafe for coffee and pastries and Clive’s Pub, serving food and microbrews. TVs will show the latest televised soccer action, a Foosball table is waiting, pretty wood makes it feel less like a Y and more like Portland eateries, and a little kiddo play area will keep the minis quite happy. Both outlets are upstairs where views of the action are easy and so are indoor voice conversations.
Also located onsite is a Far Post Soccer Supply Company, which means it’s time to say goodbye to the trek downtown for uniforms. Yes, we can feel the collective sigh of relief as you read this.
Rose City Futsal is also a gold star destination for birthday parties. With a private party room and one-hour field rental for $150, plus an affordable coach ($20 = no brainer) to run the wee ones ragged, onsite catering and outside cake and ice cream welcome.
Goal!!!!!!! What to Know
The next season rolls out November 2, 2013 and runs for eight weeks. For pre-schooler classes it’s a $140 fee for the eight weeks of energy burn. For the bigger kids prices range from $140 to $70 if there’s a team involved. Footwear is simple; no cleats with indoor flat sneakers ideal. No uniforms required though teams may choose to wear same color shirts or their rec/club league tees if they so choose.
Rose City Futsal is north of I84 – just off of NE 52nd and NE Oregon. A parking lot lines the east and south sides of the building and car traffic is one way around the site. Trains, Max and cars cruise by, but sound is minimal inside. We applaud the outside view at night. Very cool lighting!
