Who needs to jet set to a tropical island when Portland has plenty of excitement, like tram rides with a bird’s-eye view, berry patches and sandy beach trips within a stone’s throw of home? Read on to discover eight close-to-home adventures that’ll make your summer unforgettable.

3. Pick a Playground

Some families we know start a tradition, called Park Friday, where they hit a different park every Friday. It’s easy to do in the Portland area with all the amazing choices. Check out our list of shady parks for babies and these multi-age parks that are park-a-licious.

High on our list? Tanner Creek Park (3456 Parker Rd.) out in the ‘burbs of West Linn. It’s got awesome play structures, but you’ll also love the water feature — perfect for cooling off on a hot day — and huge grassy open space where the bambinos can run wild.
