It’s that time of year again. The kids are headed back to school—and that includes the royal littles too! Prince George starts school today, and it looks like the whole world is watching.
If you’re waiting to see an adorable Instagram pic of the young prince’s first day, you might be out of luck. Even though Kensington Palace often posts photos of the royal children, this time they’re keeping Prince George’s big day a private affair. Oh, and that goes for the press, too.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share a photograph of The Duke and Prince George at Kensington Palace this morning. The image was taken by @chrisjacksongetty shortly before Prince George left for his first day of school at Thomas's Battersea. Their Royal Highnesses are delighted to share this lovely picture as Prince George starts school, and would like to thank everyone for all of the kind messages they have received.
So why all the privacy? To start with, every family deserves some privacy. Right? And that goes for royals too. Along with wanting to keep this first to themselves, in the past Kensington Palace has only published pics of the first day of school at a new school. The rest of the firsts didn’t come with media fanfare.
Even though you shouldn’t expect to see a flood of first day photos and posts about Prince George, the royal family isn’t exactly taking the cutie out of the public eye. Between birthdays, weddings and all kinds of official events, it looks like there will be at least a few photo opps that royal watchers will get to follow.
And don’t forget about Prince William and Kate Middleton’s other children. Like Prince George, Princess Charlotte is also returning to the same school for a second year in a row (she attends Willcocks Nursery School). So don’t expect to see the princess in first-day photos either. That is, until she graduates from nursery school and moves to the British version of elementary school.
Along with George and Charlotte, Prince Louis will also eventually have his time in the spotlight. It may take a few years, but the younger sibs pics are certain to be just as sweet as his big brother’s and sister’s!
