Bay Area Face Painters

Red Tricycle: Your community recently voted you “Most Delightful Birthday Entertainers” – what do your customers value most about your business?
Bay Area Face Painters: Our clients get a lot for what they pay for. We are known for our high quality temporary body art including face painting, henna, glitter tattoos and more. Our artists are quite speedy, without sacrificing quality, and can accommodate up to 15 guests per hour. We also specialize in booking artists who can offer multiple services, so clients can book one artist who can offer a combination of services, for example: face painting, henna and balloon twisting, and make guests of all ages happy.

RT: What do you want people to know about your business that they don’t already know?
BAFP: You get what you pay and cheaper is not always better. When you hire a professional artist for your party, you are not only paying for the artist to show up on time, to be dressed professionally, to be super talented, speedy and patient with your kids. You are also paying for the time it takes the artist to travel to and from your party and the best customer service we can offer. Our event coordinators are also the artists who do many of our events and we are on call throughout the week sending quote requests almost immediately or within a few hours. We select each artist we send to events based on who will fit your party best, we are not simply sending whomever we have available, we do put a lot of thought into your party and assign artists to events that we feel will best meet your individual needs. When you hire Bay Area Face Painters, our hourly party rates are also covering all these behind the scenes preparation and effort.

RT: How did your business get started and what was the motivation?
BAFP: It was written in the stars! Robyn Jean, the owner of the company got her start as a face painter and henna artist after fatefully finding a flyer in a cafe looking for artists to work as face painters at large scale theme parks. After quickly realizing that transforming kids and adults with body art and face painting was the most amazing “job” in the world, she set out on her own, using her talents in marketing, graphic and web design to start Bay Area Face Painters.

RT: Tell us, what do you start your morning with: 1. coffee 2. tea 3. mimosa 4. water 5. all of the above.
BAFP: Sipping tea and reading whichever fantasy / sci-fi or historical novel that I am enjoying at the time. Then on to emails and phone calls from clients.

RT: What is the most awesome thing a customer has ever done for you?
BAFP: One of our long time clients has a large family. She opened her home to us and invited a number of friends over for a photo shoot. We gave everyone a Magical Makeover, transforming everyone with face painting, nail art, henna, glitter tattoos and hair braiding. Thanks to her and her kids willingness to be models for us we were able to get high quality photos of our fantastic work for our website.

RT: What is your biggest pet peeve as a business owner?
BAFP: Reliability. Not only do our artists need to be reliable and show up to events on time (our definition of on time is 15 minutes early), but our clients need to be reliable as well and be sure to give us accurate information about their location. If we are not given accurate details about location, it can cause the artist to be late! If client’s request to change the start time for services the week of or the day before their party, it can reek havoc on our schedule for the day, causing our event coordinators a lot of stress trying to accommodate last minute changes.

RT: How do you keep your stress levels down?
BAFP: Being well prepared and organized for events with all the proper tools and portfolios is a must and helps everything to run smoothly. Loving what we do and putting smiles on people’s faces is its own reward and makes any stress we might experience worth it.

RT: What’s your secret superhero power as a business owner?
BAFP: Manifestation and creativity! We have the ability to transform people temporarily into anything they can imagine. Once we put our minds to something, we are able to make it happen with amazing results!

RT: Tell us, what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (as a parent or business owner)?
BAFP: Publish a website for your business.
