The 39th annual Carnaval San Francisco is a free 2-day family Festival and Parade packed with the best of Latin American and Caribbean cultural arts and traditions.The largest multi-cultural festival on the West Coast, Carnaval features global cuisine, international music, dance, arts & crafts, Niñolandia with children’s activities for the kids and more. The Grand Parade is on Sunday, May 28, at 9:30 a.m. Sat.-Sun. Event details. 

Watch “The Little Mermaid” Come to Life at the Ballet
You love The Little Mermaid, but now see it come to life through the  San Francisco Youth Ballet.  The Little Mermaid lives far out to sea with her older sisters. When the Little Mermaid becomes of age to visit the surface the whole sea kingdom has a party and the Mermaid sings with the most intoxicating voice in all of the oceans. After her grand party she swims to the surface and sees the sailors and handsome Sailor Prince and where she saves him from a shipwreck. Sat.-Sun. Event details.

Kick it Kid Style at this Oakland Music Festival
EMF, or the 4th Annual Eastlake Music Festival is warming up for its next crowd-funded show. This pay-what-you-wish all ages music and cultural festival features indie bands and performance artists along the shores of Lake Merritt for just one sunny day. So pack a picnic blanket and don’t forget to get your groove on, kids. Sat. Event details.

We’re Not Kidding, it’s the Annual Bay Area Kidfest
This is it, kids. It’s all for you, well mostly you, from dozens of activities for littles as well as tweens to parents including face painting, balloon art, bounces and crawls. The 28th Annual Kidfest in Concord has hundreds of arts and crafts booths and non-stop entertainment on the community stage, plus  food courts, a zip line, rides, you might need to go to all three days of this festival just to take everything in. Go Down the Rabbit Hole with the Los Gatos Ballet
Los Gatos Ballet is proud to present the whimsical full-length ballet, Alice in Wonderland.  Join Alice on her journey down the rabbit hole.  Experience her unusual adventures into Wonderland where she meets fanciful creatures, illusions and curiousities.  Delight in her nonsensical world, where she is invited to a tea party hosted by the colorful Mad Hatter.  And, sit in suspense as Alice risks losing her head at the orders of the tyrannical Red Queen. Whack a Piñata at the Taco Festival
This deliciously named festival has a bevy of awesome food to choose from which will please the parents but kids will love the pinatas, balloon artists, face painters, Luche Libre (Mexican-style masked wrestling) and the Annual Air Accordion Championship. Sat. Event details. 

Take a Civil War History Lesson Via Roaring Camp
Weekend. Families can travel back in time to experience one of the longest running reenactments in the Western United States, which includes sounds of cavalry charges, musket fire and artillery shells. It also includes a train ride through the forest where you’ll get a first hand look at a soldier’s daily life, cooking over a campfire and cleaning his musket. Finally, fill up on a Chuck Wagon Barbecue at the camp. Sat.-Mon. Event details. 

Peninsula
Ditch Saturday Cartoons for Nature
Take a hike! Yeah, we said it. It’s the best way to check out Filoli’s incredible nature preserve which consists of seven-plus miles of trails that criss-cross six different California native habitats. Nature education docents from Filoli will guide these two-hour, afternoon tours through the preserve, discussing plants, flowers and wildlife along the way. U-Pick Your Berry Best
It’s u-pick in California and Swanton Berry Farm is opening its fields for u-pick strawberries. Make sure to pop into the market to play board games or read stories. This Volunteer Firefighter Fundraiser is Heating Up
The 45th Annual Muir Beach Volunteer Firemen’s Barbecue is a fun event for the whole family with delicious food, activities for the kids, and dancing to live music. An annual Memorial Day Weekend tradition in MarinThe Firemen’s Barbecue is a festive gathering and fundraiser for the Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Some of Marin and the Bay Area’s best musicians will rock the stage while Muir Beach firefighters and community members tend to smoky grills. Sought after raffle prizes are offered and, for the kids, there is a special play zone with climbing walls and bounce houses. Sun. Event details.

Get in Touch With Nature at Indian Valley
