Earth Day Celebration

when: Apr 27, 2013 at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

where: Fort Baker / Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Bay Area Discovery Museum, 557 McReynolds Road, Sausalito, Ca

cost: General admission: $11/Person.

ages: 0-8

add to calendar: Google   iCal/Outlook

the scoop:

Every day, the Museum seeks to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards by encouraging kids to immerse themselves in our unique place by the Bay. This, we believe, will lead them to value, preserve and protect the environment.

The Banans Slugs String Band will create a lively show that proves it can be fun to learn about the environment while dancing and singing along. Vocals, guitar, banjo, percussion, harmonica and bass are the modes through which they share knowledge, inspiration and the message to take care of the planet.

All day in the Idea Spot, visitors can contribute to a “Singing Tree” mural. This world-wide effort was inspired by an 8-year-old girl who asked, “What if the whole world made a painting together?”  Over 12,000 people from 50 countries have worked together with artist Laurie Marshall to create a forest of “Singing Trees.”  Each mural in the “forest” honors trees as essential to human life and explores a theme.

In the afternoon, visitors can join a guided Beach Exploration that will explore the neighboring beach at Horseshoe Cove. Shovels, buckets, magnifying glasses (and trash bags!) will be available for kids of all ages to explore (and clean!) the beach as well as play and celebrate our beautiful shoreline. An Earth Day-themed story time in Wave Workshop will highlight the environment.
