Now that work and school is back in full swing after the holidays, we love anything that makes life a little easier, especially around dinner time. Sometimes that means a quick and affordable meal out with the kiddos (read: no dishes, no problems!). East Bay folk have have a tasty new option: Tava Kitchen’s South Asian cuisine features flavors of India, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia with a Californian twist. Get all the zesty details right here.

Choices for Both Picky & Adventurous Kids
We tried Tava on a recent rainy day and were pleasantly greeted by founder, Hasnain Zaidi, who offered up complimentary hot chai to warm us from the dreary weather. Zaidi explained that Tava Kitchen Alameda, the restaurant’s third Bay Area location (other locations in Palo Alto and SF’s SoMa neighborhood), was opened with the intent of being family oriented. “In California, kids are super adventurous. We see kids having yellow curry or chicken tikka, but we wanted to have other options too…where parents could come in and just order a quesadilla for their kids,” he said. “It’s about getting people in and out the door quickly and being convenient. Also, letting parents have a little bit of time with their kids, but also enjoy their own little meal too.”

Customize Your Meal to Taste
The customizable menu features proteins, chutneys, garnishes, and sides offering options for special dietary needs, too. Choose a bowl, plates or a burroti—a burrito-style wrap made with roti bread. A few of our favorites? The Tofu in Coconut Curry, the Crunchy Kale & Quinoa Salad, and the super-yummy Glazed Sweet Potatoes. It’s clear nothing at Tava is overloaded with salt (win!) and flavors can easily be doctored with the deliciously fresh chutneys. The menu also features in-house beverages including mango-lassi smoothies and cardamom iced chai, along with three lemonade flavors: classic, ginger, and strawberry.tava-kitchen-img_4793
Environmentally-Conscious
The airy space features floor-to-ceiling windows and a large patio (for sunnier days ahead). Another plus? The restaurant is a California Green Building and all packaging at Tava Kitchen is environmentally friendly. Tava Kitchen is located in the Alameda Landing Shopping Center making it a great spot for a quick nibble in between Target and Safeway runs—downright dreamy. Also nearby are a Petco and a Michaels!  We recommend giving Tava Kitchen a try next time you’re in Alameda and need a healthy, fast meal.
