For the first time in its 35th year history, the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival is presenting Hamlet for the first time. Produced every year in San Francisco, Pleasanton, and Cupertino from July to October, Free Shakespeare in the Park provides an opportunity for over 30,000 people to see high quality, professional theater free of charge. Set in Denmark in 1559, the play dramatizes the revenge Prince Hamlet is called to wreak upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of Hamlet’s father, King Hamlet. Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, also marrying Gertrude, his deceased brother’s widow. All performances are at 2 p.m. Bring your blanket.
