We know we’re not supposed to play favorites, but when it comes to amazing interactive museums that inspire creativity and education, the city’s Exploratorium is at the top of our list. So when the Exploratorium announced they would be moving from their longtime home at the Palace of Fine Arts to the Embarcadero we were admittedly a little bummed that the museum would be closed during the transition to Pier 15.
Well, the wait is finally over as the Exploratorium just reopened to the public with a bevy of sweet new exhibits and features. And, we have to fess up that the wait was totally worth it. Their new digs feature 1.5 acres of free outdoor space, an all-glass Bay observatory building, 150 brand new exhibits (which are among 600 that are on view), expanded hours, and of course, the all-time favorite tactile dome.
As a sneak preview to our upcoming insider’s guide, we’ve got some sweet photos of the new space that will surely get you itching for a visit down to the waterfront.
