Most parents have learned that buying brand new is a fool’s errand when it comes to their kids. But sorting through packed racks and searching for mystery stains can be tiresome. San Francisco’s newest resale clothing boutique in the Inner Sunset, Monkei Miles, takes all of that in consideration and offers a well-curated shopping experience on par with the prettiest retail shops. Read on for all the details.

Started by a Shopping Pro
Monica Urick has been in the business of curating and selling kids clothing for over a decade. She created visual displays at GapKids, ran her own trendy kids’ clothing shop on Etsy and helped open and run the Irving Street location of Chloe’s Closet. But a few weeks ago she finally opened the door to her very own boutique, and it is squarely a family affair. The name is an amalgamation of the names of her husband (Keith), their son (middle name Miles) and her own. And the shop is just a few blocks from their family home.

Quality Over Quantity
And unlike many second-hand and consignment shops, where the racks are packed and the piles of toys make shopping more of an obstacle course than an experience, Monkei Miles is spare, clean and filled with only the best. Instead of a consignment model (where a shop takes large quantities and pays out only once an item sells), Monkei Miles is based on a model similar to Crossroads—items are examined on site, and they only take what they want, paying for items on the spot. “I select clothing that is fun. bright and soft for your kiddos,” says Monica. “I love great brands like Mini Boden and Peek but I also love all the Euro brands and anything with a nautical print—I am obsessed with stripes and polka dots right now.”

Cleaning Out Your Closet?
Looking to part with some of your prime baby and kids threads? Monkei Miles is looking for clothes sized from infant to age 14. All items must be in good condition. When they buy your items, they pay 50% of the resale value in the form of a store credit or 35% if you prefer a check. Monica buys for all seasons, all year round, but currently she is on the hunt for anything Halloween, raincoats and boots, snow gear and holiday clothing. Stop by and spice up your kiddos closet!
