San Francisco Kids Weekend Events: Aug 5-7

Hello, August. Kids having back-to-school nightmares? Make these last weeks count. Sift through the titles at the Chronicle Book Sale and see if you can find some things to add to your collection. Spend time with Curious George and the Scupper Plunder Club at another BADM Summer Sunset. Or do a dance with the Hipwaders at the JAMBand August concert. There’s a lot of party left before August 15 so be sure to wring it out!

Children’s Theater Festival
The Children’s Theater Festival is a hullaboo of magicians, jugglers, illusionists, and more. All of the shows are under 30 minutes, so there’s plenty of time to see them all! Check out the schedule online to get the scoop on all the amazing acts. Sun., see website. Free. All ages. Event details.

Festival of the Chariots
Celebrate Indian culture and learn about the Ratha Yatra festival at Festival of the Chariots. Watch the parade then cheer on the dancers and live music. Bring colorful decorations, flags, and cymbals to join in on the celebrations. Parade starts at JFK and Transverse Dr. in Golden Gate Park. Sun., 11:00 am-5:00 pm. Free. All ages. Event details.

Charity and the JamBand
Put on those dancing shoes because Charity and the JamBand is performing at the Park Chalet! This outdoor musical concert will have your little ones jumpin’ and jivin’ to the beats, as you relax on Park Chalet’s outdoor patio under what will hopefully be non-foggy skies. Charity and the JamBand’s awesome songs, some of which have won prestigious parenting awards, are sure to please your little rock stars! Sun., 4:00 pm. Free. All ages. Event details.

Children’s Party at Vacaville Museum
It’s a party at the Vacaville Museum with arts and crafts, games, a petting zoo, fire engine, and more. Buy tickets in advance because they won’t be sold at the door. Your entrance fee pays for a hot dog and popcorn as well. Lunch too?! Huzzah! Thurs., 10:00 am-1:00 pm. $3/person. Ages 3-9. Event details.

Music in the Park
Fun for the whole family, Music in the Park has live music, kids’ activities, and showcases the services of local nonprofits. The Great Big Garden Bonanza

Lark Theater
Who let the dogs out at the Lark Theater? They’re showing a series of classic family movies, starting this Saturday with “Benji,” your favorite canine hero.
