Have you put off picking up your tree? If cut-your-own Christmas tree farms bring visions of the Grizwolds’ misadventures, reign in your imagination! This is California, people. And finding the perfect tree can be a magical family trip, even sans snow. One of our favorite places to pick out a pine is Santa’s Tree Farm and Village in Half Moon Bay.
Just a half hour away from SF, this 580-acre farm carries Grand, Douglas, Noble and White firs, Monterey pines, even mini-redwoods for your holiday showcase. They’ll provide saws for you to do the cuttin’, or you can get some help with that (and hoisting it onto your car).
If you’re game for some holiday kitsch, the kiddos will love the army of elves, reindeer and other costumed characters parading around the property. Train rides are must for Thomas fans big and small and be sure check the online schedule to coordinate with the live entertainment. This weekend, starting at 8:30 a.m., there’s hot cocoa with Santa in the amphitheatre.
PS – Check out the website for a $2-coupon off any tree, and with purchase of a tree, you get a $5-coupon for Cost Plus World Market–a favorite for decorations. Get to trimmin’!
