Pick of the Crop: 7 Farms You Must Visit This Summer

From traditional farms complete with veggies, chickens and pigs, to farms that boast a little more carnival than cow, we’ve rounded up the best green acres to visit this summer.

The cow says, “Moo.” The horse says, “Neigh.” And your little animal lover shouts, “Hooray!” when you plan a trip to the farm this summer. We’ve pieced together the best our area has to offer when it comes to family farms. From animal encounters and berry picking, to farms that add carnival faves alongside their wide open spaces, each one guarantees enough fresh air plus play time to tucker out your mini farm hand by the end of the day.

Bryant Blueberry Farm & Nursery

The thing you’ll love most about the Bryant Blueberry Farm isn’t the yummy blueberries (although they’re definitely a close second). It’s the kidi-ness of this family farm. It’s like an oversized backyard that’s bursting with berry goodness and some farm animals too. After your crew have picked their baskets full of U-pick blueberries and tayberries (the picking season opens June 22nd.), set the little lot loose to play. They’ll stay busy feeding the goats, chickens and ducks, when they’re done swinging on the swing set and drawing on the chalkboards that are set up throughout the field to occupy the wiggle worms while you pick. If they have any energy left, they can bounce on the giant jumping pillow and grab a ride on the barrel train. Most families spend hours at the farm, picking berries and playing outside. So pack a lunch to enjoy the day in the fully shaded picnic area. Juice and water are available for purchase, but the rest of the feast is up to you.

Special Event: If you love blueberries the way we love blueberries, you’ll want to set aside time on July 23 Bryant Farms’ annual Blueberry Festival. This free event features pony rides, face painting, a balloon artist, plus berries, berries and more berries to go along with the old-fashioned BBQ being served up to the masses. It’ll be your new favorite family tradition!
