With the opening of The Hive Social Club in Maple Leaf, owner Melissa Plourd has achieved quite a feat: she’s created an over-the-top tea party spot where daughters (and moms!) can indulge in their inner girly girl. At Hive parties, Plourd takes care of, well, everything. Pick a theme–Fairy High Tea or Popstar Divas or Ladybug Tea–and a gorgeous table is set with fresh flowers, china, balloons and food. A basic gathering for ten kids (90 minutes for $300) includes dress up time (from a dazzling collection of tutus and accessories like gloves and boas), viewing time in front of a wall of mirrors (followed by a photo opp), a tea service with a short etiquette lesson, and a gift-opening presentation.  Party add-ons range from candy carts to treasure hunts to face painting, which is done by Plourd, an award-winning professional face painter.  The Hive also features drop-in tea parties once a week. Little girls aren’t the only ones clamoring for pinkie-lifting fun; the Hive hosts its share of bridal and baby showers and girls night out gatherings, including its popular Henna Nights.  Proof that no matter your age, you can always celebrate the princess within.
