Mark your calendars for the JCCCW’s annual Kodomo no Hi – “Children’s Day,” an annual event that encourages children and families to explore and learn about Japanese art, culture, food, and music. This year, Kodomo no Hi attendees can enjoy Japanese drumming known as taiko from Kaze Daiko and Inochi Taiko; participate in martial arts demonstrations by Budokan Judo Club, Seattle Seido Karate, and Seattle Aiki Club; enjoy Japanese classic dance by Fujima Dance Ensemble; craft origami creations like cranes and frogs; and be entertained by traditional Japanese storytelling known as Kamishibai.
Note: The event also includes the always popular water yoyos, a regular feature at Kodomo no Hi festivals in Japan. Fishing competitions with prizes, and a LaQ building contest will also be part of the day’s events.
