Whether it’s Monopoly, Hungry Hungry Hippos or Chutes and Ladders, the winter months are a great time to unplug and enjoy a board game with the fam. And playing together in a warm community atmosphere just adds to the fun—you can try new games, revisit some old faves or play with other families. Before you pass GO, check out our favorite game shops. Psst… They all have friendly staff who will help you find just the right game and teach you how to play it. Score!

Blue Highway Games

This gem of a game shop atop Queen Anne Hill has a big library of games to try and several cozy spots to hole-up and play. There are games for all ages, from the littlest players to keen strategists. A big hit with preschoolers is Spot It: Frozen, meanwhile the big kids love Sleeping Queens (wake them up from a sleeping spell, but watch out for wicked potions and dastardly dragons). For even bigger kids and grown-ups there’s Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride and hundreds more.

Good to Know: It's best to eat along Queen Anne Ave. first as Blue Highway Games does not have a café. Cold drinks are available, including beer for the grown-ups. There's candy on sale too.

Insider Tip: This Queen Anne hot spot often has special events for kids; be sure to check their calendar. Psst! There’s a Pokémon league and regular kids’ Dungeons & Dragons too.
