No, the calendar isn’t lying, it’s spring. Although the weather would suggest otherwise, winter has since gone and that means one important thing for chefs, foodies and families alike: farmers markets. That’s right, the markets are about to start their 2012 season with a bang and you don’t want to be left behind to miss out on all the freshest produce, sweetest kettle corn, and best hand picked and crafted goodies one can fit under the arm. Our dear friends at Seattle Magazine have the scoop on where and when the farmer’s best will be showcased at the markets, so grab the kiddos and shopping bags and grab some of the good stuff!

Allison Austin Scheff of Seattle Magazine writes:

It hardly feels like spring, and yet our neighborhood farmers markets are on the verge of starting their 2012 seasons.

Opening day for my local Columbia City farmers market (3-7 p.m.) is May 2nd. Most of the neighborhood markets open in the next month or so; here’s the line-up.

North-enders can shop the Wallingford market (Wed., 3:30-7 p.m.) when it opens May 30th, or the Queen Anne market (Thu., 3-7 p.m.), which this year opens June 7th. TheMagnolia market (Sat., 10 a.m.-2 p.m.) begins June 9th; the Phinney Ridge market (Fri., 3-7 p.m.) begins May 28th; or wait until June 14th for the terrific Lake City market (Thu., 3-7 p.m.).

Those who live in central Seattle can return to the Broadway market (Sun., 11 a.m.-3 p.m.) on April 22nd, or drop by the Madrona market (Fri., 3-7 p.m.), on May 18th. Sadly, the Georgetown market will not be returning in 2012, and the Olympic Sculpture Parkmarket is no longer; it’s been replaced with a market at Interbay (which is getting real in the Whole Foods parking lot; sorry, couldn’t resist) beginning June 14th (3-7 p.m.)
