Believe it or not, there are some people who do not like cupcakes. However, many of those people grew up attending birthday parties with the little cakes made with sickening sweet, grocery store “butter cream” frosting. When Jody Hall launched Cupcake Royale's first shop in Madrona in 2003, she was pretty much running the only game in town. Now, Hall oversees half a dozen thriving locations in a crowded cupcake landscape—she’s even added a line of ice creams (many of which have cupcake crumbs folded in) and Stumptown cold brew on tap. The bakeshop’s menu is based on locally sourced, organic ingredients, with spring and summertime flavors starring seasonal ingredients like rhubarb, lemon and strawberry. Gluten-free options are available as well.
