See 10 larger-than-life sea creatures sculpted from plastic ocean trash including sand toys, plastic bottles and colorful shards that have been transformed into the stripes of a giant parrot fish, the teeth of a 10-foot-long shark, and the beak of a massive penguin.
These are just a few of the awe-inspiring animal sculptures that will be featured at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium as part of the Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea exhibit. All of the artworks are made out of plastic debris that has washed up on beaches.
The Washed Ashore Project will dot the grounds at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium from April 22-Oct. 21. The project is a non-profit community art organization that utilizes a handful of staff and an army of volunteers to transform tons of trash from the Pacific Ocean into the stunning artworks.
