It’s Memorial Day Weekend which also means it’s the unofficial kickoff to camping and road trip season. Since we know traveling with little ones can be hard (especially in bumper to bumper traffic), we’ve put together a fantastic weekend of family fun right here in the Emerald City. On our radar: a ginormous music festival, a fish-tastic day with science, an activity for big and little cyclists, an adventure through the wetlands, a classic production with a twist and a scenic journey through the Upper Snoqualmie Valley. If you’re still looking for more weekend ideas, be sure to check out our Memorial Day guide.

Northwest Folklife Festival (pictured)
There’s a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ for everyone at the largest folk festival in the country. With more than 5,000 diverse performers, an awesome Discovery Zone for kids and participatory dances and workshops, we guarantee you’ll tire the little ones out without even trying. Bonus: On Monday, catch a special Kindiependent Showcase with local kindie faves including Recess Monkey, The Not-Its!, Brian Vogan and his Good Buddies and Eli Rosenblatt. Fri.-Mon. Event details.
Family Science Weekend
Take the fam to the Seattle Aquarium to learn about local science projects and research being done in our area. There will be plenty of hands-on activities, special talks and demonstrations and diver shows to help the whole fam discover science in a new and fun way. Sat.–Mon. Event details.
Dust off your bikes, blades, trailers and training wheels and enjoy four car-free miles of Lake Washington Boulevard between Seward Park and Mount Baker Beach. Psst! If your lil’ peddlers need to make a pit stop or take a break along the way, there’s plenty of places to stop and even an awesome playground and zip line near the entrance of Seward Park. Sun. Event details.
Canoe Mercer Slough
Kick off your Memorial Day Weekend (and canoeing season!) by exploring the beautiful Mercer Slough Nature Park by boat. See how this amazing ecosystem functions and with a little luck, catch a glimpse of the otters, herons, turtles and other wildlife who call the Mercer Slough home. Sat. & Sun. Event details.
This latest Studio East production gives a new twist on an old classic. See what happens when Alice finds herself trapped in a crazy video game called Wonderland. In order to escape, she must complete all the levels and defeat the Red Queen. But can she get past the hardest obstacle of all … her own self-doubt? You’ll have to see the show to find out! Sat.-Sun. Event details.
Memorial Day Train Rides
If you and your crew are itching to get out of the city for the day, head east to North Bend and celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with a scenic train ride. This special 75-minute steam train run is in addition to the railroad’s usual weekend train schedule and will take you through the Cascade foothills of the Upper Snoqualmie Valley, including a ride to the top of Snoqualmie Falls. Psst… on Sunday, everyone is invited to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Northwest Railway Museum and the 50th birthday of the train rides in the Upper Snoqualmie Valley! Enjoy treats at the Railway Education Center as well as special giveaways (while supplies last) and the first 50 full fare ticket purchasers will receive an extra special treat, too. Sat.-Mon. Event details.
