the scoop:

Join the Japanese Friendship Garden to celebrate Children’s Day, or Kodomo-no-hi, which was originally known as Tango-no-Sekku, or Boy’s Day, and is traditionally celebrated on May 5th. This national holiday in Japan celebrates the happiness and well-being of all children and expresses gratitude for mothers. Colorful carp streamers (koinobori) and elaborate samurai helmet displays are showcased in and around the house to symbolize courage and strength. These decorations also bring good fortune to the boys in the home and wish for them to grow to be strong and wise.
