Kids have an innate desire to climb everything from kitchen counters to trees––and if they’re metaphorically climbing the walls at home, it’s time to give them a literal outlet. Whether your little monkey is all beginner or ready for bouldering, we’ve rounded up the best indoor rock climbing gyms in San Diego. Scroll through our slideshow to see where to scale new heights.

Mesa Rim Climbing & Fitness Center

Check out Mesa Rim’s new youth programs designed for mini climbers ages 4 – 6. Mini Monsters is a drop-in program which teaches basic climbing techniques, safety, mental focus, confidence and problem-solving skills. The coach-to-student ratio is 1 to 4, so your climbing sweet pea can scale rocks with confidence. Starting fall 2017, Mesa Rim will offer the Mini Base Camp program for tiny tots ages 3 – 4. Kiddos and parents can explore the word of climbing in a safe and controlled environment. This program teaches tots how to turn their natural inclination to climb things into climbing actual walls! The only prerequisite? A passion for learning new things and having fun!
