Whale Fest at Birch Aquarium
Join Birch Aquarium for Whale Fest, a week-long celebration of whales! Winter is the peak time to see migrating Gray Whales in Southern California, so come celebrate these marvelous marine mammals and their fin-tastic cousins with a festival of whales! Every day of Whale Fest kids can become a whale expert, discover local whale species, learn how to spot migrating whales, get hands-on with whale biofacts and learn about whale watching. On weekends kids can also meet Scripps Oceanography scientists who study whales and create cute whale crafts. Whale Fest runs Feb. 2-10 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. All activities are included with admission. Mermaid returns to San Diego’s Mission Bay for a scenic women’s 5k, 10k, and half marathon. The flat and fast course features beautiful Bay views on mostly closed roads. The Mermaid is ideal for both runners and walkers. Come out and experience the joy of crossing the finish line! The Mermaid Dash is a great way to introduce girls to running and walking. The fun run/walk allows girls to participate and experience the joy of crossing the finish line in a safe and supportive environment. Mermaid Dashers receive a medal, finisher necklace and post race food. Make Sweets for Your Sweetheart
San Diego’s colorful chocolate shop Sweet Petite Confections is celebrating the day of love and friendship with a “Make Sweets for Your Sweetheart!” themed chocolate making class. Secure your spot at this reservations-only class to learn the art of making fantastically flavored chocolates and bark over the course of two hours while creating nearly 1.5 pounds of confections. During this class, students will play with flavors like salted caramel and peanut butter cup as well as passion fruit caramel and spicy serrano ganache made by chocolatier Michelle Lomelin. Students will also select from more than two dozen ingredients as they personalize a chocolate bark with options including freeze dried raspberries and strawberries alongside savory pretzels, potato chips, nuts, candied bacon and more! Coronado Valentine’s Day 10K, 5K, and 1-mile Fun Run
Enjoy San Diego’s most scenic run in beautiful Coronado. Start at Tidelands Park and run under the Coronado Bay Bridge and along Glorietta Boulevard. The Valentine’s Day Run on Coronado has a 10K, 5K and 1 mile fun run. The post race party will be held at McP’s Irish Pub and Grill located at 1107 Orange Ave. in Coronado.
