Mass Creativity Event
The New Children’s Museum is celebrating their 5th annual Mass Creativity event with art-making workshops inspired by discovery, diversity and community. Join the Museum’s creative team in free hands-on workshops where you can celebrate culture and share your story through art and play. This free all-day event includes admission to the Museum, live entertainment, festivities, art-making and more! Note: The event takes place in the Museum and its adjacent park. Island Ave. will be closed between Front and Island to allow celebration participants to move freely from the park to the Museum and some of the performances take place in the street. Sat. Biomimicry Nature Tour
Did you know? The magic of bird flight inspires airplane designs. An invention as simple as Velcro mimics the interlocking hooks in common burrs that attach to our hiking shoes. That’s copying nature’s best! Join the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy tour to open the ways we think inside nature’s strategies and patterns. Guest expert, Jacques Chirazi with Biomimicry San Diego, will lead the nature walk with hands-on activities including a scavenger hunt, a blindfold exercise to enhance the other senses and nature drawing. Family-Friendly Improv Comedy Shows
Similar in style to “Whose Line is it Anyway,” the National Comedy Theatre is a high octane improv comedy show featuring San Diego’s best comedians performing a series of games and scenes all based on audience suggestions.

2017 Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-off Festival
Join more than 70,000 visitors for an oceanfront chili cook-off, five stages of continuous live music and entertainment, the community mural project, Artists Alley, carnival rides and games, food and vendor booths, a beachside beer garden and more. The one-of-a-kind Hodad’s Burger-Eating Competition will offer contestants a chance to be featured on the Hodad’s Wall of Fame in Ocean Beach. The chili competition will feature more than two dozen tastings from amateur and restaurant entrants competing in separate categories for the titles of Hottest Chili, Judges’ Awards and the grand prize: People’s Choice Award. Tastings can be purchased for $2 per chili entry, or attendees can buy a Master Ticket to try every recipe for $20. Free trolley services will run from the Knights of Columbus parking lot on Bacon Street between W. Point Loma Blvd. and Voltaire St. (every 30 minutes) and the parking lot at the intersection of Sea World Dr. and Pacific Coast Hwy. (every hour) from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sat. Event details.
