Icons: Cars That Drove Our Imagination Exhibit
The San Diego Automotive Museum in Balboa Park is proud to announce the opening of its new exhibit, Icons: Cars that Drove Our Imagination. Sometimes, a vehicle becomes iconic for its accessibility, affordability and endearment to the masses. The Volkswagen Bug, for example. Certain models are etched in the public psyche for what they brought to the industry. The Porsche 356 and the Ford Mustang are such vehicles. Pop culture also generates icons. Steve McQueen’s 1968 Mustang from the movie Bullitt and the custom “Captain America” Harley Davidson Chopper from the movie Easy Rider, for example. The vehicles featured here pay homage to automotive excellence and reverence. Kids under age 6 are admitted free. Balboa Park Explorer Passes are accepted. Fri.-Sun. Event details.

Borrego Springs

Visit the Rare Desert Super Bloom
The last rare Desert Super Bloom was in 2017, but before that, there hadn’t been one since 2008. “Super Blooms”–seasons in which unusually high numbers of wildflowers blossom in California’s deserts–can only occur if very specific conditions are met. After a wet and rainy winter, it looks like nature will be treating us to the rare display. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is expected to be carpeted in yellow, purple, and white wildflowers beginning in March. Some early pops of desert sunflowers, sand verbena and desert lilies have already started to appear along the eastern areas of the park. In coming weeks, the park will post updates on blooms to their website and also offers a Wildflower Hotline at 760-767-4684. Fri.-Sun. Event details.
