Gator by the Bay
Gator By The Bay, the largest and most-authentic Louisiana-themed family-friendly music and food festival this side of the bayou, will return for its 18th year this May 9-12th. The four-day, family-friendly cultural celebration will feature more than 100 live musical acts and special performances on seven stages, dance floors filled with happy dancers and plenty of fun for the kids. Authentic Cajun, Creole and Southern cuisine is another highlight of the festival. All areas of the festival are open to kids and admission for kids 17 & under is free, with adult paid ticket. Special family fun activities include costumed Mardi Gras parades, outrageous hat-making with the Rad Hatter and colorful face painting. Gator by the Bay is fun for the whole family. Fri.-Sun. Waterfront Park 5-Year Celebration
Join in the fun of this very special celebration commemorating Waterfront Park’s 5th year. The party starts at 3 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. with an action-packed entertainment schedule. All ages are welcome and there is no cost to attend. You won’t want to miss the free concert lineup featuring Hullabaloo, Frankie J, FlashPants and Fleetwood Max. A DJ will be mixing music in between sets, or, you can dance to your own tune at the silent disco. Mother & Daughter Tea at The Westgate Hotel
Gather the girls and enjoy the heavenly sounds of a harp, traditional teas and champagne toasts in the Westgate’s opulent Le Fontainebleau Room. The menu will feature savory and sweet delights, including a variety of delicious finger sandwiches and artisanal French pastries. Spring Camping at Lake Poway
Pitch a tent and marvel at the beauty of Lake Poway as you cruise the lake on a motorboat, go fishing, hike the trails and sleep under the stars. Fishing permits and boat rentals are not included; but may be purchased for a nominal fee. This is a rain or shine event! Fri.-Sat. Event details.
Mother’s Day Tea Party
Come to the gardens for a day of fun, tea party-related activities and crafts––all to show love and appreciation for all the things that moms do! Night Nation Run
Join in the world’s first running music festival, Night Nation Run. Experience the ultimate night—music festival meets fun run featuring live DJs, light shows, bubble zones and neon lights! Runners are encouraged to arrive at 6 p.m. for the pre-party before the race begins at 7:30 p.m. Runners can expect party zones, selfie stations, light shows, a lantern land, a bubble world, multiple stages with DJs and more! Once you cross the finish line the party doesn’t stop— head straight into the Epic Main Stage After Party to dance the night away as lights, fog, cryo, confetti guns and giveaways rain down on you. Spend the Saturday before Mother’s Day at San Diego Botanic Garden’s famous Chocolate Festival! Enjoy dozens of delectable chocolate tastings, demonstrations, a chocolate fountain, and more. This family-friendly event also features lots of children’s activities and a variety of Mother’s Day gifts. “Tasting” tickets will be sold on site.

Wilson Middle School in San Diego is hosting Scratch Day––Scratch is a free computer programming platform and online community for kids developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With Scratch, kids and adults can create their own video games, animate stories, and explore computer science concepts. At Scratch Day, people of all programming levels congregate to meet, share and learn. Attendees can collaborate on different Scratch projects, attend workshops, share their ideas and experiences, and overall, have fun. Thousands of kids, parents, and teachers around the world will celebrate their love of computer programming on Scratch Day, and San Diego residents will be among them. Scratch Day is open to all ages and abilities, and no previous programming experience is required.
