USS Midway Museum Legacy Week
The USS Midway Museum is the heart and soul of Memorial Day celebration in San Diego. The Legacy Week Memorial Day lineup of activities aboard the Midway honors and remembers America’s heroes as it celebrates the military heritage of the U.S.A. Weekend activities and events offer the community an affordable and inspiring way to kick off summer in San Diego and range from a wreath ceremony, a freedom concert featuring Daughtry, an adventure discovery zone for kids and so much more. Head to Waterfront Park to see Incredibles 2 (PG) for the Kickoff to 2019 Summer Movies in the Park. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs for a fun night for the whole family. Come early to get a good seat and enjoy pre-movie activities. There will be concessions and food trucks onsite for yummy snacks and dinner. Toddler Time: Puppet Play
The New Children’s Museum hosts facilitated toddler programming every Friday morning beginning at 10 a.m. Their toddler program values the whole child and supports healthy bodies and minds, with music, movement and social play for young children. The Red Spade Theater is proud to present The Family Magic Show starring The Amazing Derek. As a member of The Magic Castle, The Amazing Derek has been entertaining audiences for years. Festival of the Sea
The Port of San Diego Festival of the Sea has something for everyone to enjoy. Taking place aboard the historic vessels of the Maritime Museum on the scenic North Embarcadero region of downtown San Diego. Tickets include: Freedom to tour all Museum vessels and dozens of fascinating exhibits below deck, 27th Annual San Diego Sea Chantey Festival, Jam session by local favorite Classic Rock quartet Paul Hartley & The Chiefs, Fun-filled Education Zone, Regional Artist and Artisan Exhibition of paintings. Science & Engineering Night
Enjoy the Museum after hours and discover the world of Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math (STREAM)! The entire Museum will be transformed to host hands-on activity booths for the whole family to explore; from virtual reality, to slime-making, to high & low tech coding, to paleontology and “mad scientist” workshops and more. There will be food and drink available for purchase throughout the event and opportunity drawings for fun prizes. Summer Safari is returning to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, bringing fun activities and entertainment for the whole family. Enjoy a spectacular array of activities, live music, arts and crafts, pop-up entertainment for all ages, and much more. Guests at the Safari Park will also have the unique opportunity to encounter fascinating animals up-close and enjoy a variety of special evening shows. During Summer Safari, guests can stay late on selected Mondays and Tuesdays during the first-ever “family nights,” when the Safari Park will stay open until 8 p.m. On these Monday and Tuesday nights—June 10-July 30, guests can spend relaxing evenings at the Safari Park and enjoy unique, family-friendly entertainment, such as the whimsical Bubble Show or an evening Cheetah Run. The Piano Men
The music of Elton John and Billy Joel bursts to life in this thoroughly entertaining concert highlighting the countless hits by these two incredible singer/songwriters. Featuring an amazing cast of piano playing vocalists displaying their talents on not one, but two grand pianos, backed by a live band, this show is not to be missed! Following their successful outings with The Best of Broadway and The Best of Motown, The Barn Stage Company is thrilled to be partnering once again with California Center for the Arts to bring you this one of a kind theatrical experience. Open Cockpit Days
Come sit in a cockpit and experience Marine aviation from a pilot’s perspective at the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum in San Diego. Cockpits of some of the aircraft on display will be open and pilots will be available to answer questions every other weekend during the summer. See 31 historical aircraft up close at this indoor/outdoor attraction as well as hundreds of artifacts from the earliest days of aviation to present day. Vista Strawberry Festival
Vista was once known as the “Strawberry Capital of the World!” Head to San Diego County’s only celebration of the Strawberry at this fun festival. There will be live entertainment on multiple stages, bands, local craft brews in the beer garden, food, carnival rides and contests! Additionally, you’ll find 400 vendors that include strawberry desserts, food, crafts and local shops. Contests include Little Ms. Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Costume, Pie-Eating and many more!
