Liberty Station Outdoor Movies: The Last Jedi
ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station welcomes back its free outdoor film series on the second Saturday of each month from May to October 2018. Evenings feature surprise pop-up performances or activities along with curated shorts preceding the feature film. Movie lovers are encouraged to arrive early and visit the ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station galleries, studios, and museums. Grab a picnic, blanket, or low back chair and spend an evening underneath the stars with friends, family and neighbors. Movies begin after sunset. Hallow’s Eve Chocolate Making Class
San Diego’s colorful chocolate shop Sweet Petite Confections is celebrating Halloween with a “Hallows Eve!” themed chocolate making class. Secure your spot at this reservations-only class to learn the art of making fantastically flavored chocolates and bark over the course of two hours while creating nearly 1.5 pounds of confections. During this class, students will play with favorite flavors like salted caramel and peanut butter cup and select October flavors like like pumpkin caramel ganache and vanilla bean nutmeg caramel. Students will also select from more than two dozen ingredients as they personalize a chocolate bark–with favorite flavors including freeze dried fruits and savory pretzels, potato chips and a wide selection of nuts. Scarecrow Contest at Bates Nut Farm
Are you ready to join the tradition of building a scarecrow for the annual Bates Nut Farm Scarecrow contest? You or your group can start your own fall tradition. Your scarecrow can be any theme you like—traditional, scary, a movie character, even your favorite teacher! Each entry will receive a free jack-o-lantern pumpkin and a certificate of participation. Your scarecrow will be on display in the Pumpkin Patch thru 10/31/18. All winning scarecrows become the property of Bates Nut Farm and will be added to the Farm’s famous scarecrow collection. Bring your scarecrow and completed registration form to the pumpkin patch from 1-5 p.m. on Oct. 12 or before 10 a .m. on Oct. 13. Cash prizes and gift certificates will be awarded to the top entries in each category. Entry forms are available online or at the Bates office. All of the Pumpkin Patch festivities will continue throughout the weekend including the tractor hayrides, straw maze, pony rides, and food. Admission is free. $5 parking on Oct. weekends. Sat. Pumpkin Express Train Ride & Pumpkin Patch
Start your spooky day off right with a train ride. The Pumpkin Express will wind down the hill through some of the most scenic parts of the historic San Diego and Arizona Railway. Keep your eyes open for the Grim Reaper who may be stowed away onboard. After the train returns to the museum grounds, passengers will be let off at the Display Building where kids and their parents will enjoy decorating pumpkins from the indoor pumpkin patch and a walk through one of two haunted trains. For the first time ever, first class tickets are also being offered on The Pumpkin Express. Sat. & Sun. Event details.

BOOmont & Fall Fest
BOOmont & Fall Fest rises from the dusk as Belmont Park transforms with festive fall thrills and chills throughout the beachfront amusement park, offering Halloween and fall-themed festivities for guests of all ages. Enjoy unlimited fun on Halloween-themed rides and attractions like the Spooky Coaster where you can dip back to a spooky time on the historic Giant Dipper Roller Coaster. Also on tap: take down zombies at Zombie Laser Tag or play where pirates slay as Pirates Takeover Mini Golf. Participate in free activities including trick-or-treating from 6:30-7:30 p.m. from Fri.-Sun. and Family Costume Contests each Saturday at 5:30 p.m.(sign-ups at p.m.). There will be plenty of fall photo-ops throughout the park, other entertainment and even fun pumpkin painting starting at $2. Members of the Belmont Park Insider Club can also enjoy other deals like “Kids Free October,” which offers free fun and food for kids all month long.
