Balboa Park

Last Call for Food Truck Fridays in Balboa Park
Take your appetite to the last Food Truck Friday of the season this weekend with good food and fun by dining at gourmet food trucks in Balboa Park while enjoying live entertainment. Eat gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway. There will be family-friendly musical performers or DJs in the Plaza de Panama. The Plaza’s “living room” setup will be rolled out, including a large artificial lawn for children to play on and giant family game sets. Various Balboa Park cultural institutions will also have booths set up with hands-on activities and crafts for kids. Fri. La Mesa

La Mesa Oktoberfest
Since 1973, La Mesa Oktoberfest has been attracting over 100,000 people from across San Diego and Southern California for three free days of elevated family-friendly entertainment, tons of top notch German food, live music and of course, beer! Keeping in line with the traditional timeline of Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich, they’ll be kicking off the festivities this last weekend of September as the quaint streets of La Mesa Village will set the scene for the largest German celebration San Diego has to offer! New this year: “Kinder Karneval” featuring a towering Ferris wheel, rock-climbing wall, massive inflatable slides, interactive art, brat-eating competitions, scavenger hunts and even more new features like the wiener/dachshund dog race and fashion show. Fri.-Sun. Point Loma

San Diego Cabrillo Festival
The Cabrillo Festival is a fun event for the entire family, with educational activities, cultural demonstrations and exciting folkloric performances. Brightly colored clothing and dramatic music and dancing bring to life the traditions of the Native American, Mexican, Portuguese and Spanish cultures that are part of the Age of Exploration. The Cabrillo Festival features food booths with delicious traditional Mexican, Native American, Portuguese and Spanish food. Vendors will showcase their various artistic goods. The highlight of the Cabrillo Festival is the re-enactment of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s landing on the shores of San Diego Bay in 1542. “Cabrillo,” his soldiers and a priest sail into the bay on San Salvador, and once again claim the land for Spain. A Portuguese navigator sailing under the flag of Spain who stepped ashore on Ballast Point, he was the first European to land on the west coast of what is now the United States of America. Fern Street Circus in Julian
Fern Street Circus comes to Julian for a wonderful fall event celebrating Julian Library. Workshops in juggling, tightwire, clowning and tumbling start at 10 a.m. Fern Street Circus’ show––professional circus acts and live band––starts at 2 p.m. Sat. Event details.


Museum Mash Up
Kids Free October is back! All month long, kids 12 and younger can enjoy free admission to 43 museums across San Diego County. To celebrate, you’ll want to save the date for the Kids Free in October kick-off event that is just as exciting, Museum Mash Up! On Sun., Sep., 30th from 11a.m.-2 p.m., more than 10 museums will be on site offering hands-on activities, entertainment, and more at The The New Children’s Museum Park. The day will feature fun for the whole family, including a performance by the San Diego Ballet and an animal encounter with the Living Coast Discovery Center. Not to mention, there will be Kids Free October coupons at the event that you can use to go explore The New Children’s Museum while you are there.  Free admission is available for up to two kids per adult ticket purchase.
