There’s a new workout in town… and Johnny Castle would be proud because “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” at a GroovaRoo class. Instead, moms and dads get to cozy up to the cutest dance partner ever. See why parents are lining up to shake their groove thang at these babywearing fitness classes created by a local husband/wife team…

Laugh & Bond with Baby While Working Out
It can be difficult to carve out time to exercise as a parent, but GroovaRoo dance classes put baby right into the mix. Participants wear their baby in a carrier while using the magic of music and dance to bond with their tiny dancer. The classes are based on Soul Line Dancing and the tunes range from Soul to Funk to Pop hits and newly released songs you can’t stop blaring in your car.

Two left feet? Not to worry. GroovaRoo classes aren’t designed to make you feel like you need to master any choreography––but rather to foster a connection with your kiddo. The classes are suitable for all levels of and they’re tailored to whomever shows up each day and what they’re in the mood for.

And GroovaRoo Makes 4
San Diegans Meeshi and Amber Anjali are the co-founders of GroovaRoo Dance. The husband/wife team fused their individual passions together–– Meeshi’s passion for dance as a 20 year+ dance instructor (he’s also the founder of Firehouse Swing Dance) plus Amber’s experience as a Certified Babywearing Educator, birth doula and postnatal yoga instructor–– coupled with the birth of their son, resulted in this unique dance workout.

Amber told Red Tricycle, “For us, babywearing dance is just the beginning of our larger mission of normalizing families dancing together for all generations. In America in particular, dancing nowadays is often seen as a performance versus part of everyday life. We want to shift that perception, so dancing with your family is as normal as playing basketball with your family.”

Baby Steps to Global Popularity
A must-see viral video featuring a GroovaRoo class full of dads performing a synchronized dance with their babies to “Play that Funky Music” made global news; and now parents all over the world are trying to bring GroovaRoo classes to their hometowns. GroovaRoo has begun offering teacher trainings so they can spread the love and joy of their popular workout.

Groovy for the Whole Family
GroovaRoo aims to engage the entire family with their classes. As shown in the lead image herein, there’s an older sibling joining the fun with her baby doll in a carrier. Even dads who’d typically say “never” to dancing in public really enjoy getting into the groove at these informal dance classes.

Suit Up
Wear your own ergonomic, two-shoulder carrier with baby facing in, heart to heart. If you need help with your carrier or would like to use a demo carrier from the teaching stash, arrive at least 15 minutes early so that you can be wrapped and ready to begin.
