Congratulations are in order for U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, who gave birth to a daughter on Monday, according to The Chicago Sun-Times. There’s much to celebrate for the Duckworth family, as the senator from Illinois not only just celebrated her 50th birthday in March but she also just became the first senator to give birth while in office.

In a statement to the Sun-Times, Duckworth announced that she had given birth to a girl named Maile Pearl. “Bryan, Abigail and I couldn’t be happier to welcome little Maile Pearl as the newest addition to our family,” Duckworth said.

In January, Duckworth announced her second pregnancy while in office; she gave birth to daughter Abigail in November 2014 while serving as an Illinois Representative U.S. House. Late last month, Duckworth had been thrown a baby shower at the Capitol by her congressional colleagues. It’s a nice change to have such wonderfully happy news coming from Capitol Hill.

While other senators have become fathers while in office—most recently Massachusetts Senator Joseph Kennedy III, who welcomed a son in December 2017—Duckworth’s feat is particularly historic as she’s the first sitting senator to have physically birthed a baby while in office. In her statement announcing the birth of her second daughter, Duckworth spoke about the importance of working toward more federal policies supporting working parents.

“Parenthood isn’t just a women’s issue, it’s an economic issue and one that affects all parents—men and women alike,” Duckworth said. “As tough as juggling the demands of motherhood and being a Senator can be, I’m hardly alone or unique as a working parent, and my children only make me more committed to doing my job and standing up for hardworking families everywhere.”

Preach it, mama!
