All good things must come to an end—and sadly this includes the epic saga of the Pearson family. The show’s creator has just announced when the final season of This Is Us will be and you’ll want to go ahead and stock up on the tissues.

In a recent interview with Deadline, This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman revealed a lot about where the series is headed and when it will all come to an end. With multiple mysteries at play and some already resolved, it might seem impossible for This Is Us to serve up any more emotional punches, but according to Fogelman the ride is only half over.

Fogelman revealed that the rest of this season will feature an episode dedicated to Randall and Beth, including their first date, as well as a theatrical-style episode that takes place in real time. “We’ve got multiple seasons mapped out. I think this season has been a lot about redemption, but also a lot of rebirth. Next season is a season of new beginnings and restarts.”

Fogelman explained that the series will feature even more of the signature twisting timelines This Is Us has become known for, but just like LOST—another series that played with time and emotions—there is an endgame. The series’ showrunner, Isaac Aptaker said, “From day one, Dan came in with his master plan for the big picture stuff of the show and said, ‘I think this is where we end up.’”

He added that the writers are planning for “about three seasons into the future” to reach the series finale. In other words, expect the show to end after season six.

Sad as it is to say goodbye to the Pearson clan, there is a silver lining to knowing the show will end. Aptaker said, “We’ve had this end in mind for a long time, so we’re able to plan for it, and try to make it feel like it’s a whole, as opposed to a series that’s going to go endlessly.”
