As if summer wasn’t reason enough to celebrate, we’ve rounded up 10 fun and funky holidays that will make those lazy days of August a blast. Did you know August is a month to celebrate elephants, bowling and bacon? August 30 – Bacon Day

Who can resist bacon? The crispy stuff doesn’t get better than at Carnitas Shack. This place celebrates pork products in all their goodness. They are all about fresh -- the meat, produce and beer are locally sourced as much as possible. Try the Triple Threat Sandwich - stacked with pork schnitzel, pulled pork and bacon. The kiddos will love the carnitas tacos and fries. Hey, Bacon Day only comes once a year, right?

You’ll find a Carnitas Snack Shack in Del Mar and North Park. The North Park location has a spacious family-friendly patio. They get busy. Try to visit in an off time with the kids to avoid lines that come at lunch hour.
