Can you guess just how much U.S. shoppers spent on toys at Amazon in 2017? And no, we don’t mean “a lot.” Obviously we all kind of indulged over the course of the year. Hey, there are birthdays to buy for, the role of Santa to play and then there are all of those random gifts for the littles that they absolutely, positively can’t live without. One Click Retail (they’re pros when it comes to eCommerce data measurement, search optimization and sales analytics) recently published their Toys on Amazon: 2017 Review report. What did it say? We’ve got the scoop on just how much Amazon customers are spending on toys.

Over, Amazon hauled in $4.5 BILLION last year in toy sales. The report breaks down key toy categories, such as robotics and active play. Even though the robotics category only had $50 million in total sales (yeah only — said with plenty of sarcasm), it did grow by 32%. The two top-selling toys in this category were Cozmo by Anki and LEGO Mindstorm EV3.

Outdoor and sports toys was the fastest-growing toy category of the year. With 46% growth, the Nerf Strongarm Blaster and the Little Tikes Jump n’ Slide Bouncer were category leaders.

Infant/preschool toys took top honors, with $650 million in Amazon sales. But the growth doesn’t stop there, this category is primed to keep on an upward trend through 2018.

Not only does this report cover U.S.-based toy sales, but it also features stats worldwide. In countries, such as Germany and France, that had poor overall toy sales, Amazon-based sales actually grew.
