You’re in the middle of the mall when baby needs a change. Luckily, the public restroom has a convenient (and hopefully clean) flip-down changing station. Easy. But what if you aren’t a mom? What if you’re a dad—or an uncle or the babysitter? When dad Chris Mau tried to change his eight-month-old daughter Kali in a public bathroom, he didn’t have the luxury of a changing table. And he just wasn’t having it.
So what did Mau do? He did what most of us do in the age of social media: he posted to Facebook. Even though the first thought when looking at Mau’s photo might be, “Awwwww. That baby is absolutely adorable,” what you really should be looking at is the eww-worthy public bathroom floor that the dad had to change his daughter on.
Mau wrote (in his Facebook post), “I’m getting pretty sick of having to change my daughter on a disgusting floor because the only changing table in the place is located in the women’s bathroom. It’s crazy to imagine I know but there are guys who take care of their kids too.”
This certainly isn’t the first time that a dad has vented his absolute anger in the face of this kind of ridiculousness. Faced with no reasonable option to change his baby, Mau had no choice but to use the floor. He noted in his FB post, “the circumstances of the situation left very little options for privacy. I had taken her for a walk when this happened so there was no car and the only counter space was a 3-inch gap between the 2 sinks.”
In a plea to make men’s’ room changing tables an actual thing, the dad writes, “Am I asking too much?” Nope. We don’t think he is.
