The news of the first royal baby for newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is still fresh, but that hasn’t stopped fans across the globe from wondering, what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will name their baby. Prince Charles recently offered a royal insider’s thoughts on the many baby name possibilities.
While addressing the crowd during a recent visit to the Australia House in London, Prince Charles joked, “My son Harry tells me that during their recent tour of Australia he and his wife were offered countless, thoughtful suggestions for the naming of their forthcoming baby.”

Thank you to everyone that came to greet The Duke and Duchess in windy Wellington following their visit to Maranui Café to meet young New Zealanders working to support each other in the field of #MentalHealth. Among the young people The Duke and Duchess met was Ezekiel Raui, one of The @queensyoungleaders, who after experiencing several youth suicides at his high school founded Te Kotahi, a peer-support programme led by young people. #RoyalVisitNZ #NewZealand #Wellington #queensyoungleaders
He continued, “Just between us, I suspect that Kylie and Shane may possibly make the short list. But ladies and gentlemen, I would not hold your breath for Edna or Les.” So there you have it folks, direct from grandpa: the royal baby will not be named Edna or Les.
All joking aside, while the baby’s given name will likely be kept well under wraps until the he or she makes their debut on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, bets are underway on what the new little prince or princess will be named. Popular U.K. betting sites already have their odds on a handful of names. On both top betting sites, Ladbrokes and Betfair, Arthur is among the top three choices for boys’ names. Diana and Alice also weigh in on top at Betfair for girls, while the odds are in favor of Victoria, Albert and Philip on Ladbrokes.
Names aren’t the only royal baby related things people are willing to wager on. The sites are also taking bets on the birth month—with odds on March or April—as well as birth weight (odds favor 7 or 8 pounds) and even hair color!
