There’s pancake panic on the internet! A recent tweet from the International House of Pancakes announced something major—IHOP changing its name to IHOb is happening, and soon. Whoa! So what’s with the name change? And is it real?
According to the tweet (from IHOP’s verified Twitter account), “For 60 pancakin’ years, we’ve been IHOP. Now we’re flippin’ our name to IHOb. Find out what it could be on 6.11.18. #IHOb.” If you haven’t guessed by now the “b” in IHOb is actually the “P” from the end of IHOP, just flipped upside down. While the iconic pancake house’s big name reveal is still days away, Twitter is buzzing about what the “b” could be.
One Twitter user replied to IHOP’s post with, “Spoiler alert: It’s going to be “Breakfast.” Also, the only thing I can think of with that “ob” at the end of the logo…(This is why more women need to be on advertising review boards!)” And yes, the “ob” referred to in the tweet is exactly what you’re thinking of—o.b. tampons!
IHOP itself is even getting in on the guessing action, positing a Twitter poll that includes various “b” options, such as biscuits, bacon, butternut squash and barnacles.
With all the speculation about the “b” comes the big question, “Is this a real thing?” Well, we can’t answer that. Maybe IHOP is really changing their name. Or maybe it’s all part of an attention-grabbing viral marketing campaign. We’ll all just have to wait and see—at least until the 11th.
