Susan Fox – Park Slope Parents

This Brooklyn, NY, mom is no stranger to surviving a long winter with kids. Her best boredom buster for a cold weekend? “Taking in a museum. We especially love the American Museum of Natural History,” she says.

Family rituals include getting up early after a snowfall, before tracks appear and taking a morning walk. And she also has cool hack for emergency cold-weather gear: “I use rubber bands and trash bags to help keep snow out of boots and pants when we’re sledding and building snowmen at Prospect Park.”

Susan definitely knows how to beat the winter blues because her go-to spot is the bathtub. “I used to fill up that bath and take my kids in the bath with me and some bath toys and stay in there for hours, adding hot water as it got too cold. Now they are off at school but I’ll sneak in a bath when it’s super cold outside!”

As for winter adventures, it’s sand and sun for this family. “Trips to the Bahamas where I can warm up my whole family and ready them for the rest of the winter are a must. Our favorite spot is Harbour Island.”
