One new mom can thank a young girl’s love of dolls for the well-being of her newborn. This ten-year-old helped her aunt deliver her baby at home and she is basically our hero.
Caring for baby dolls can teach kids more than just kindness and responsibility, as it turns out. For ten-year-old Chloe Carrion playing with dolls prepared her for a once-in-a-lifetime moment when she found herself alone at home with her aunt who suddenly gave birth. “She screamed my name and says, ‘I had a baby!’ And I said, ‘No, you didn’t,’ and she said, ‘Yes, I did,'” Chloe said.
She rushed into the bathroom where her aunt had delivered the baby on the toilet. “She gave me the baby because she got in the bathtub. But she lost a lot of blood, so she fell and passed out. I called 9-11,” Chloe said.
The ten-year-old quickly recalled watching YouTube videos on taking care of baby dolls and decided to put those skills to use on the real baby. “The videos helped me with swaddling and cleaning him up from everything,” she said.
She even managed to cut the umbilical cord as paramedics talked her through the steps over the phone. Chloe’s mom, April West, arrived home just minutes before the paramedics and found her standing on the porch with the swaddled baby rocking him in her arms.
“I’m very proud of her. She was so brave. Even as an adult, I don’t think I could have done what she did,” her mom said. Way to go, Chloe!
