Baobab Trees – Menabe, Madagascar

With nine different species, the Baobab trees of Madagascar look like they’ve popped out of Saturday morning cartoons---we can practically see King Julien of the animated series perched among the limbs! In fact, they’ve been growing in popularity since 2008. The fresh fruit is known to taste like sherbet while the roots are used to make crafts. In Australia, the trees were even carved out to form prisons back in the 1890s! Read up about them on Wikipedia.
