As Amazon continues to expand its empire of convenience shopping ,it should really come as no surprise when you spot the very first Amazon delivery robots rolling up to your front door.

The online retailer has rolled out a pilot program to test its new delivery robot, Amazon Scout: a six-wheeled, blue bot that resembles a beach cooler. Currently, six Scout robots began delivering packages to lucky Amazon shoppers in a neighborhood in Snohomish County, Washington. The first Amazon Scouts will initially be accompanied by human handlers, but are designed to function autonomously following a programmed delivery route.

Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers said, “We are delighted to welcome Amazon Scout into our community. Similar to Amazon, we are always looking for new ways to better deliver service to our residents. From the latest Amazon innovation to cutting edge technology, Snohomish County is a great place for entrepreneurial creativity.”

Clearly the future is here, when Amazon launches autonomous robot delivery; it’s definitely seems like it’s easier to roll out than delivery by Amazon Prime Air drones—but we bet that’s only a matter of time, too.
