It’s almost back-to-school time which means hitting the books again. Getting your kids engaged isn’t always easy, however, especially if you have reluctant readers. The Amazon Rapids app makes reading more fun for kids who already love to read—and even those who don’t. There’s never been a better time to check it out because now the app is completely free.
Amazon Rapids is a chat-fiction app that presents short fiction stories for kids in text format. The stories are targeted at kids ages 5 to 12 and are meant to be a silly and fun way to engage kids in reading. It also features a glossary so kids can expand their vocabulary and a read-along mode for younger users.
The app was previously available for a $2.99 a month subscription fee, but now Amazon has made it completely free. For users who already signed up for a subscription they will no longer be charged and will be refunded for the rest of the year.
Some of the app’s stories are also accessible through the Storytime Alexa Skill, which reads the stories out loud to kids. According to TechCrunch, Amazon Rapids will be adapting its story catalogue so that more of the titles can be accessed through Alexa.
