Soar down to Callaway Gardens for their 15th Annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival. Stake your spot early to see superheroes parade down Peachtree at the annual Dragon Con Parade. Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival
Join Callaway Gardens for their 15th annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival. The weekend kicks off with the Friday Night Balloon Glow and continues all weekend long. Watch beautiful balloons in flight or hop in a basket for your own tethered balloon ride. Saturday is filled with family-friendly events, including live music, beach activities, and a Kids Zone. There’s something for everyone with a classic car show, disc dog demonstrations, a pyrotechnic skydiving demonstration, as well as a 5K Race and Triathlon event plus some of Atlanta’s top-rated food trucks throughout the festival. Cap off the weekend with a final balloon glow Sunday night on Robin Lake Beach. Fri.-Sun., 10 am to 7 pm, Callaway Gardens, Free with admission. All ages. Event details.

Annual Dragon Con Parade
Stake your spot early to see superheroes and Star Wars characters parade down Peachtree. One of the highlights of the Atlanta sci-fi and comic book convention that takes place every Labor Day weekend, costumed characters representing everything from the Hunger Games to Harry Potter will march as over 14,000 spectators descend upon Atlanta for the biggest fan convention in the southeastern United States. Sat., 10 am, Downtown, Free with admission. All ages. Event details.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival
Read up on the largest independent book festival in the country and their calendar of children’s programs. Authors will read aloud classic stories and tell tall tales live to the delight of little ones at various times throughout the day Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s Children’s Stage events will kick off with a parade led by five-time Caldecott medalist, Jerry Pinkney. Children marching in the parade will be invited to dress as their favorite storybook character. Sunday’s parade will be led by Tom Angleberger, author of the New York Times bestselling Strange Case of Origami Yoda series. Backyard Campout
Make it a stay-cation and campout under the stars at CNC this holiday weekend.  Enjoy night hikes, play games on the meadow, visit with nocturnal animals, roast marshmallows around the campfire and enjoy the great outdoors. 27th Annual Art In The Park Festival
This fine art extravaganza takes place around the Historic Marietta Square and Glover Park. Enjoy an artist market, children’s art alley, the Marietta ChalkFest (featuring 20 professional chalk artists) and the famous Painted Pots. Kids will enjoy the many free make and take art stations. There will also be a number of activities such as face painting, sand art and inflatable’s that will require a small fee. Sat.-Mon., 10 am to 5 pm, Historic Marietta Square, Most activities are free.
